Checkered Records was founded in 1987 as a specialty vintage vinyl record store. Our current owner Scott Fox, was one of the store’s very first customers. Scott started collecting record albums in 1981 at age eleven. Scott would ride his paper route bike around to garage sales looking for record albums to add to his collection. In 1987 Scott received his driver’s license. Serendipitously, this was the same year that Checkered Records opened its doors for business on Cleveland Avenue in Canton, Ohio. It was love at first visit. The store’s owner George B. was a walking encyclopedia of rock history and he quickly became one of Scott’s heroes. In 2016 George passed away and the store was closed for a brief moment. When Scott heard about the store’s closing, he made up his mind to keep the beloved record store open (and the memory of George alive). Several months later, Checkered Records was reopened as an online record store. Scott vowed to keep the store honest to its roots; by offering only the highest quality vintage vinyl record albums with a complete customer satisfaction guarantee just like his hero George before him.
Since then, Checkered Records has grown to reach thousands of customers around the United States and is recognized by record collectors and record sellers alike as one of the top online record stores in the nation.
